Freaky Dream
I had an interesting dream. Normally, I wouldn't share these things on my blog, but it's weird on a couple different levels.
I was living somewhere which had a large community shower. Or it was an indoor/outdoor water park/spa. Or something. In any case, there was an earthquake, so we all went outside.
Since we were instructed to wait, I got dressed and started reading a book containing a collection of xkcd comics. Before too long, I noticed there was a girl sitting next to me, reading them over my shoulder. When I noticed her, she apologized, but I encouraged her to keep reading. I asked if she'd ever heard of xkcd. She replied she had not, but that it reminded her of something she read called The Leaves. I told her I haven't read it, but did read another book in the same style called—"Raisins", we said in unity. In truth, I've never heard of either of these things, but they felt so familiar while in my dream. They made me think of hand-drawn things, sketches and observations.
We were enjoying our conversation when her friend came along, and told her they had to go. I didn't understand the urgency until another earthquake began. The look in her face said I wouldn't see her again. "What's your name?" I asked. She said something. I couldn't hear it over the rumbling. "What?" I asked, and grabbed her hand to draw her nearer. She said something again. With each "What" I pulled her closer, until we were in an embrace, and our heads were side by side. "Just tell me where I can find you!" I yelled.
"Aliveri." And then I woke up.
Everything in this dream felt so real. During the earthquake, the ground swayed. The grass outside was wet from so many people getting out of the water and walking across it. My jeans were faded and torn, and I was barefoot, as I usually am. The woman wore a white skirt with a blue blouse. She was white (though very tan) with dark brown (almost black) hair and light blue eyes.
Imagine my surprise when I found out Aliveri is a real place. When I learned this, I was immediately reminded of (and here's the irony) the xkcd comic entitled Dream Girl, at which point I abandoned any fantasy of looking for her.
But still. Where was I? What are The Leaves and Raisins? How did her friend know another quake was coming? And why am I dreaming of a town I didn't know existed?
